JR Central is addressing environmental considerations in its construction of the Chuo Shinkansen.
This section describes the main environmental conservation measures being implemented.
Environmentally responsible construction equipmentJR Central uses construction equipment that produces minimal noise, vibration and emissions (nitrogen dioxide and suspended particulates).
Temporary shieldsTemporary shields of suitable height for the surrounding environment (e.g. nearby houses) are installed to reduce noise and the spread of dust particles.
Appropriate water treatmentTo minimize impact on waterways and the environment, JR Central fully treats waste water and turbid water generated from construction work in compliance with drainage standards and other laws and regulations before discharging treated water to public waterways.
Relocation and transplantating of important speciesWhen drawing up detailed construction plans, JR Central tries to avoid locations that are habitats of important plant species. If necessary, such plants are transplanted to areas with a similar environment based on detailed specimen identification, habitat studies and relocation/transplanting advice from experts.
Clean construction site entrances and vehiclesJR Central strives to control dust particles at its construction sites by cleaning/spraying the entrances (and surrounding roads) and cleaning the tires of vehicles used to transport construction materials and equipment.
